Come and see the Living Bethlehem of Buitrago del Lozoya
The first Living Bethlehem of Buitrago del Lozoya took place in the year 1988. Through the Adult Education Classroom, the then teacher, Angelines Paíno and her ever-accomplice husband, Eusebio García, along with a small group of neighbors, they gained the support of the Municipality of Buitrago del Lozoya and the collaboration of the Delegate of Culture of the Community of Madrid to carry out the project of the Living Bethlehem of Buitrago.
Were 4.000 people who contemplated that Christmas 11 scenes represented by 80 actors that Bethlehem had in that first edition. Given the success of the initiative, and popularity among neighbors, in 1991 the non-profit Cultural Association was founded "Living Bethlehem of Buitrago del Lozoya", getting new prop, more than 100 actors and 16 Scenes. The route was extended, and the number of visitors exceeded 10.000 people. The media was beginning to echo the repercussions of the Living Bethlehem of Buitrago.
For years to come, this Living Bethlehem is getting more importance and more number of actors and scenes, achieving the International World Teatre Award in the year 2000, the declaration of a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest by the Delegation of Government of the Community of Madrid in the 2001, and the appointment of a place in 2014, as of Living Bethlehem Square by Ayto. Buitrago del Lozoya, in recognition of the twentieth anniversary of its representation.
For 6 years, eight young men from Buitrago form the board of directors, along with the backing of 130 Partners, and they're already over 30 years, those who the Living Bethlehem of Buitrago is part of our Christmas, a tradition that takes root in our municipality, in time, neighbors and visitors. Already nationally recognized, Bethlehem currently represents 41 biblical scenes scattered along a journey of 1.300 meters involving more than 200 Actors, And while, we continue to write a little page, in the history of Buitrago del Lozoya...
WHAT'S BEHIND THE LIVING BELON? WHO MANAGES IT AND HOW?
Behind the organization of this event, there's a non-profit Cultural Association, who conducts this event in an altruistic and selfless way. All proceeds, is entirely spent on the costs generated by the activity. Currently 8 people form the board of directors, along with the support of 130 Partners.
The bulk of the income the association receives is from donations made by visitors, contributions from small traders in the municipality and to the quotas of partners who complete our financing pathways, without receiving any fixed income from any institution or authority. Given the magnitude and all that this event entails, we can deduct the high income that is needed for its maintenance.
WHEN WILL YOU BE ABLE TO SEE THE REPRESENTATION?
You can enjoy the Living Bethlehem of Buitrago del Lozoya on days 21, 22, 28 and 29 December of 2019, where you can choose between 2 daily sessions, one at a time 18:30h. and another 20:30h. For each session they will be made available to the public 2.000 Tickets.
HOW TO GET TICKETS?
These years ago to get tickets, had to come to Buitrago del Lozoya first thing, wait for the line (cold), hopefully catch one of the physically distributed tickets, and wait until the start of the performance.
This year you can buy your tickets online in advance, so you can comfortably enjoy this Living Bethlehem, through the website www.belenvivientebuitrago.es.
If you can't book your visit online, you can take your tickets (300 per session) physically on the same day as the performance, in Constitution Square, In Buitrago del Lozoya since the 16:00h. by strict first-come, first-served order, and until it drains capacity.
