Within the network of green paths of the community of Madrid, "The path of the Genaro" with their 70 kilometres is characterized as representing greater length on its way. It is classified as Gran travel route (GR 300) by the Spanish Mountaineering Federation and until now we had two versions, the hiking version and an almost identical version, but with some modifications to make it by Mountain Bike. Both are signposted.

We now offer you a cycling version of the Genaro, whose layout also runs in the surroundings surrounding the Atazar reservoir, greater capacity within the community of Madrid, but which also includes part of the Vega del Jarama. This new alternative for saddlebags, avoids the most technical stretches of the Genaro, difficult to perform with a hybrid bike or with an MTB with saddlebags and are replaced by road or local roads in good condition to “ciclear” with saddlebags. Sections leaving the original Genaro are not signposted, so we'll have to have a map with the tour or download the track and use a GPS.

This cycle tour adds to Genaro the populations of Torrelaguna (“Villa de Madrid”) and Torremocha del Jarama, so it makes it easier for us to stay overnight in more populations.

Depending on the level and time you want to spend, the route is perfect to do in two or three days. If you want to take the guided tour of the historic center of Torrelaguna find out in this link, you also have the possibility to take the guided tour of Patones de Arriba.

Shops and supermarkets to stock you will find in El Berrueco, Torrelaguna and Patones. To stay you will find a good deal in El Berrueco, Torrelaguna and Patones, you'll also find accommodation in Robledillo and Mangirón. Bars and restaurants in all the villages where the route passes.
