Calçotada: Gastronomic days of traditional Catalan cuisine

A calçotada is a Catalan popular food which consists of eating calçots, an onion's elongated cooked alive, that are Peel and spread with romesco sauce.

The story is the calçot from Valls (Tarragona), in the 19th century began to cultivate a white onion, just burying it in half and it would grow was snapping it (plugging) with land, from there in catalan the name calcot. But there are pictorial documents Romans which demonstrate that it already tasted very similar to the calçots onions for more than 2.000 years. The Romans called it porrus capitatus.

It is typical to gather a group of friends and go out to eat calçots during the months of December in early may. It's a fun food, a real party.
