• VALLE DE LOS NEANDRETALES AND PATONES

Once upon a time in the Sierra Norte...

We propose a getaway that will not leave you indifferent; revive the existence of the first settlers of the Sierra Norte through the interpretation of archaeologists; rebuild the vegetation around them, the animals that stalked them or those who fed, recall how they hunted, visit the places where they slept, Ate... And they felt.

We invite you to a tour of archaeological sites, Necropolis, Castros, Caves.... belonging to the Paleolithic, Iron Age and Bronze Age and monumental works dating back to the S. Xv- 17TH. A historic route, the history of the Sierra Norte through the remains left by its first settlers, to interpret a life of survival in a world to be discovered.

    Day 1
Our route begins with the guided tour of the Necropolis of SevenChurches, a set of 85 tombs of the Middle Ages coincided with Christian repopulation after the takeover of Toledo (1085 D.c.).

Then we will move to Pinilla del Valle, to visit the Archaeological Site "Valley of the Neanderthals". A real journey in time that will allow us, through his team of archaeologists, reconstruct the past from the records found. The project led by the Regional Archaeological Museum, is allowing us to reconstruct the evolution of the landscape and climate of the past in this region.

Food in a restaurant in the beautiful municipality of Lozoya.

After lunch we recommend taking a walk through this village that you look in the natural mirror of the Pinilla reservoir. Lozoya is heritage and synonymous with encounter with mountain architecture.

Accommodation and dinner in La Cabrera.

    Day 2
Breakfast. Visit to the Archaeological Site Dehesa de la Oliva, in Patones.

In that area are two examples of enormous importance: the cave of the Reguerillo (Madrid's first artistic demonstrations, in the form of rock paint), and a site that shows the existence of a folder-no-Roman city that developed between the early 2nd century BC. and the Visigoth period.

The population was home to a walled village, with an urban configuration developed with streets and apples, where there were homes, Ovens, public buildings, small shops…

The population was abandoned and the hill was used as a necropolis in the 5th and 6th centuries A.D.. After the Reconquest, the area was occupied again and from that time the remains remain the hermitage of the Virgin of the Oliva (Romanesque- Mudejar).

Finally we will head towards Torrelaguna, declared a Historic-Artistic Ensemble in 1974 which offers us a great cultural and architectural heritage, referred to by the old Pósito, its defensive wall (S. XIV), Franciscan Monastery, hermitages and abbeys and The Church of St.. Mary Magdalene, the latter being its most representative monument. We will make the return to the capital after lunch in the same town.
